When searching tall trees we have a chance to encounter the Great potoo.Spotting this good camouflaged nightjar species, which looks suspiciously like a tree stump, therefore belongs to the one of possibilities.

The name Chocopot was probably given after a Belgian researcher once visited and observed the Cocoa Thrush.Therefore we will be looking for this special thrush. In addition to the many bird species, we also will be looking for the other mammals of the forest, including the Pale-throated Sloth, the Linnaeus two-toed Sloth, teh Red howler monkey and the Squirrel monkey.

After the walk in chocopot we continue to Weg naar zee. Here we are looking for the rare Rufous crab Hawk. We also have a chance to see the Scarlet Ibis and the Black Skimmers. Many come here at low tide for hibernating, including the Semipalmated sandpiper, the Least sandpiper and the Hudsonian whimbrel. In the narrow creeks next to the road we observe the Solitary sandpiper and the American Pygmy Kingfisher.

After this we drive to Zanderij. Around the airfield is a low savannah forest where we are on look for the Point-tailed Palmcreeper, Tropical screech-Owl and the Goldenheaded Manakin.

When the Inga and Erytryna Fusca bloom in Peperpot and Mopentibo, it has great appeal on various hummingbird species. In addition to the colorful and agile hummingbirds, there are also a number of special bird species, including the Blackish Antbird, the Green-tailed Jacamar, the Cream-colored Woodpecker, the Blood-colored Woodpecker and the Arrowhead Piculet.

Pick-up at your Hotel is at 0630 hours. After a short drive through Paramaribo we cross the Surinamese River by Bridge and arrive in the district of Commewijne, from where it’s another 15 minutes ride before we arrive at our birding destination. At approximately 0700 hours we start birding around the flatland at Boutique Peperpot, where we will be able to observe shore birds, seedeaters and Tyrants. After about an hour we move on to the nearby old plantation of Mopentibo, where we will be looking for birds along the beginning of the three kilometers long Mopentibo trail. At about 10 o’clock we will be at the bird tower, which is a special wooden tower in the middle of the forest, where we will be able to look into and above the canopy. At 1100 hours we wrap-up and walk back to the car and drive to a nearby restaurant where a hot warm lunch will be served.

We leave at 4 o'clock from Boutique hotel Peperpot and walk around the factory grounds. Around five o'clock we get in the car and then drive to the Mopentibo plantation, where we continue the trip. Upon arrival at Mopentibo plantation, the tour continues at the entrance of the Mopentibo trail. Between 6 and 7 we walk up the Mopentibo trail to the entrance of the Bird Tower. We bird at the Bird Tower until half past eight and then return. You will then be dropped off back at the hotel at 8 am.
